Tesla is entering India with manufacturing. Tesla will set up an electric car manufacturing unit in Karnataka region of India. Tesla next factory after India may be Indonesia.
India's Karnataka region's Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Saturday said that American car maker Tesla will set up an electric car manufacturing unit in Karnataka. The statement was a part of the list of benefits promised to Karnataka in the Union Budget.
India has very high import taxes that make Tesla’s cars unaffordable for most of the country’s population. For this reason, those interested in buying the cars have wanted a production facility in the country, and in January, it was finally confirmed.
The timeframe and manner in which Tesla will operate in India is yet to be decided.
In December 2020, Torque News reported that Tela will start operations in India for the first time in 2021 and look for a possible assembly, possibly making India home for its next Gigafactory.
This is a really big news today for Tesla and India as Tesla is entering the Indian market with a manufacturing unit.
In parallels to Tesla and India, Tesla may also start battery manufacturing or a Gigafactory in Indonesia.
An Indonesian official has confirmed earlier reports that the government will begin early talks with Tesla over a potential investment in the development of Li-ion batteries in the country. News of an investment proposal was first revealed by the country’s deputy head for investment and mining coordination, Septian Hario Seto.
