In the pandemic era , where this COVID situation has become a dynamic problem, we don’t want to get affected to ourselves, that is the infection to be transferred to us or to the patients. We want to protect you, we want to protect ourselves and we want to protect all our staffs, we want to protect our contacts also, our kith and kin and relative. So this is the reason we want to avoid surgery whenever we can avoid. So when it comes to laparoscopic surgery, whatever is an “Elective” laparoscopic surgery, we want to avoid as much as possible . The last 1 to 1 and a half months we do not do any surgeries in elective set up bit the last 15 days in this month, we started doing some of the emergency electives, that is the people who have been suffering from abdominal pain or lets us say the gall site pain or the irreducible hernia, that starts troubling them. So it goes into further complications. So in the elective set up, we have laparoscopic surgery that has to be done as early as possible. So we just started doing these surgeries. So in laparoscopic surgery the issue is we burn a lot of tissues in the abdomen and the air goes into the abdomen, that is carbondioxide and when we put the ports, each time when we try to burn or cauterize the tissues the air has to be removed, so we were using the regular mask to prevent inhalation of air. Now we are using N-95 mask, we are using PPE kits and we are covering our eyes also. Because the air that can come out can become a trouble maker because we do not have any studies related to COVID Virus as such. But we do have lot of studies especially for HIV viruses, that there can be a transfer of viral infection due to the body fluids and the smoke that is created in the operation theater. So we have to protect ourselves from the body fluids and the smoke that comes out in the operation theaters. So we have certain filters that are used like the HEPA filters we call it, that is present in operation theaters and we are also using a special pathway to take this air and it goes to the water so that it doesn’t get contaminated in the space outside the operation theater . Yes , in this COVID Pandemic, we can do laparoscopic surgery when it is needed.
