KHOU11 - Chase suspect struck by SUV and killed while running from HCSO has been identified
HOUSTON — Traffic came to a standstill on the Katy Freeway Monday morning when a chase suspect running down the freeway was struck by a car.
The woman died at the scene, according to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez.
She was later identified as Ashley Molina.
It started around 7:15 a.m. at 16800 I-10 Katy near Highway 6.
HCSO was chasing a van on the feeder road when the driver lost control and veered off the road. The three suspects jumped out and took off running, according to HCSO.
They say Molina and the driver jumped the concrete retaining wall and ran across the eastbound lanes of I-10. Both then jumped over the center retaining wall and darted across the westbound lanes.
Molina was struck by a gray Chevrolet Trailblazer and died at the scene.
The other two suspects were taken into custody. Their names haven't been released.
It's not clear why HCSO was chasing the suspects.
Rush hour traffic was backed up on both sides of the Katy Freeway.
The scene was cleared and all lanes reopened just before 11 a.m.
There was an unrelated accident across I-10 on the inbound feeder road. That scene has also cleared.
