Conservation Farmer: Staying on Top of Things

Jim McHugh has been farming in Boone County, Iowa for over 40 years. He farms 500 acres consisting of corn, soybeans, alfalfa hay, cereal rye cover crop seed and 30 head of cattle. Along with these products, McHugh maintains a diverse array of conservation practices including: two wetland sites, cover crops, no-till and strip till, buffer strips, waterways, and extended crop rotations. McHugh works to stay on top of soil health and water quality in Iowa.
