Compare Solar Panels For An Array Of Fixed Size, Which Make More Power?
Nine Hundred Dollar Luxury Yacht

I want to replace the three bimini tops with another solar panel rack. Like the solar rack over the rear deck, this will provide shade as well as power. Unlike the lower rack on the stern, the new rack will have to fold down to get under low bridges and power lines when the boat is on its trailer.
There is only a 10 by 13 foot area where the solar array can fit on the boat. I want to get the most power out of that area as possible, while also comparing costs.
I found that different panels had slightly different power per dollar, but the most significant factor turned out to be how many panels fit in the area I had with the least amount of space left open. Because different manufacturers have panels with different dimensions, I found a solution with almost the maximum power without spending an excessive amount to get the last little percent of power.
The performance of the different brands had little to do with the choice. I needed panels that filled the available area with as little space left over as possible. If my array size was different, i would have chosen different panels. If you have an unlimited area, or your array dimensions can be changed to accommodate the panel sizes you get, then Rich Solar poly or New Powa polycrystaline panels were the best watt per dollar deal at 82 cents per watt.
