Bubble & Squeak - A Lively Fiddle Tune
Published at : 05 Feb 2021
As kids, most Mondays at midday we would have this for our dinner. Basically, it was the left overs from the weekend all mashed up in a big frying pan. In those days, we walked home from school at midday and always looked forward to this meal. School was a good 20 minute walk away, so it only left about 10 minutes to eat this meal, but it soon disappeared. Yummy.
There are a few variations in this one, as I like to make tunes up as I go along. This tune ended up with three variations to the main theme and there is quite a lot of music, which is why I have tried to mainly feature the notation in the video.
The drum track was great fun to record and I did it on my electronic drum kit, and I think I might have lost a few kilos in the process, haha.
This tune began life on my mandolin and that is why I recorded a video and put it onto my Mandolin channel first, a few days ago. But I think this fiddle version is far more lively and took me a fair few more hours to record.
I certainly hope you enjoy listening.
It's not really a Cajun or Zydeco tune as such, but I think the pace and rhythm are certainly closer to Zydeco, which is why I include it in that playlist.
